Dholera Village Records

What the 22 villages inside the Dholera project area actually have today: schools, health centres, water, power and roads. Every figure carries its own date.

Getting around

Banks, cash machines and where credit comes from

Where do you draw cash, and where does a farmer borrow. This page prints the banking picture the census found in the 22 Dholera villages, including the one figure that surprises people.

0ATMs in the 22 villages

Census of India 2011, Village Directory. Surveyed 2009.

4villages with a bank branch of any kind

One commercial, 3 co-operative.

20with an agricultural credit society

This is where borrowing actually happens.

No cash machine anywhere in the notified area

The ATM column is a no in every one of the 22 villages, and the census puts the nearest one more than 10 km away from all of them. One village had a commercial bank and 3 had a co-operative bank.

What does exist is credit. 20 of the 22 villages had an agricultural credit society and all 22 had a self help group. In practice that is how a farming household here borrowed in 2009: from a society or a group, not from a branch.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot see a bank correspondent or a mobile banking point, because the census of 2009 had no column for either. Both are common in rural Gujarat now and neither would appear in this table if it existed.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot tell you the branch or the bank's name. The Village Directory records the presence of a category, never an institution, so nothing here can be matched to a particular branch.

One warning that applies to this whole page. The census amenity columns describe 2009, not 2026. Nothing built in the Dholera region after 2009 is in them, and an absence here is not proof of an absence on the ground today. It is proof that the last national survey of these villages did not find one.
