Dholera Village Records

What the 22 villages inside the Dholera project area actually have today: schools, health centres, water, power and roads. Every figure carries its own date.

Toilets, drainage and where the rubbish goes

Two questions a family asks before it moves anywhere and nobody puts on a brochure: is there a toilet block, and does anyone take the rubbish away. Here is what the census found in the 22 Dholera villages.

17of 22 villages with a community toilet block with bathing space

Census of India 2011, Village Directory. Surveyed 2009.

19with waste collected house to house

Against three with no system at all.

3recorded as inside the national sanitation campaign

Fewer than the number that already had the facilities.

The part of the picture that is better than expected

Sanitation in these villages reads better than water does. 17 of the 22 villages had a community toilet block with bathing space, and 19 had waste collected house to house. Only three recorded rubbish on the street as the arrangement.

The odd figure is the campaign column. Only 3 of the 22 villages were recorded as covered by the national sanitation campaign, even though most of them already had the facilities the campaign builds. Both numbers come from the same survey and both are printed here.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot tell you whether the toilet block was usable, whether it had water, or how many households used it. The census records that one existed. Condition is not in this source and was not invented for this page.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot be added up into a household toilet count. The Village Directory asks about shared facilities, not about what is inside each house. The household toilet question lives in a different census table that is not in the workbook used here.

One warning that applies to this whole page. The census amenity columns describe 2009, not 2026. Nothing built in the Dholera region after 2009 is in them, and an absence here is not proof of an absence on the ground today. It is proof that the last national survey of these villages did not find one.
