Dholera Village Records

What the 22 villages inside the Dholera project area actually have today: schools, health centres, water, power and roads. Every figure carries its own date.

How to trust this

How to check any of this yourself

You should not have to take this site's word for anything. Every figure here traces to a public document with a name, a date and a page. This is which document, and what to type into it.

396census columns behind one village row

Sheet Village_Data_2400, Gujarat state code 24.

2state health lists to search separately

Dated 15 August 2018 and 30 June 2021.

Step one: get the village code

Every village in India has a permanent census code, and it is the key to everything else. This site prints it at the top of each village page and in one table on the councils and codes page. Ambli, for instance, is code 511905.

Once you have that number you never have to trust a spelling again, which matters here because these village names are transliterated differently by almost every source. Ambli and Ambali are the same place. So are Rahatalav and Rahtalav. The code is not.

Step two: open the census village directory

The source behind most of this site is the District Census Handbook Village Directory for Gujarat, state code 24, in the sheet named Village_Data_2400. It is published by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. It has 396 columns and one row per village, 18,225 of them for Gujarat.

Find your village code in that sheet and you are looking at exactly the row this site read. Column 13 will tell you the amenity reference year, and for every Gujarat village it says 2009. That is the single most important thing to check, because it is the reason nothing on this site can be described as current.

Step three: check the health lists separately

The health figures on this site do not come from the census. They come from two state documents, and both are downloadable.

  • The Health and Family Welfare Department list of 1474 Primary Health Centres, as on 15 August 2018. Search it for Dholera and you will find three.
  • The National Health Mission list of 345 Community Health Centres, as on 30 June 2021. Search it for Dholera and you will find nothing, which is the finding.

A search that returns nothing is a real result and this register treats it as one. It is also why the Community Health Centre figure on this site is a printed zero rather than a blank.

Step four: be suspicious of the school numbers, including ours

Of the 56 school records on this site, 6 rest on a government document and the rest rest on a third-party aggregator whose own disclaimer says its information is user-generated. We publish both and we label which is which, and we do not publish the aggregator rows as operating.

If you want the real answer on schools, it is in UDISE+, run by the Ministry of Education. Its village-level search is behind a challenge test that has to be solved by a person, so it cannot be read by any automated process, including ours. That is why not one school record here carries an enrolment figure.

Step five: tell us when we are wrong

This site publishes an email for exactly this. Send the document, not the opinion. A page number and a date will change a figure here. An assertion will not, and that rule applies to everyone including whoever is arguing loudest.
