Dholera Village Records

What the 22 villages inside the Dholera project area actually have today: schools, health centres, water, power and roads. Every figure carries its own date.

Where people buy food

Not the supermarket question, the real one. This page prints which of the 22 Dholera villages had a ration shop, and how far the nearest market of any kind was from the rest.

15of 22 villages with a ration shop

Census of India 2011, Village Directory. Surveyed 2009.

0villages with a weekly market

The haat that most Gujarat villages have is absent here.

0villages with a regulated wholesale market

Produce leaves the village to be sold.

The ration shop is the food system here

15 of the 22 villages had a PDS shop, the ration shop where subsidised grain is sold. That single institution is the food system for a large part of these households, which is why it is the first row of the table rather than a footnote.

Beyond it there is nothing on the census list. No village had a mandi and no village had a weekly haat. So buying anything that is not grain, and selling anything that is not sold at the farm gate, means a journey to one of the towns.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot see the ordinary village shop. The census asks about the ration shop, the regulated market and the weekly market. A kirana counter in somebody's front room has no column, so this table is not a picture of everything that is for sale.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot tell you whether the ration shop was stocked. Presence is recorded; supply is not, in this source or in any other retrieved for this site.

One warning that applies to this whole page. The census amenity columns describe 2009, not 2026. Nothing built in the Dholera region after 2009 is in them, and an absence here is not proof of an absence on the ground today. It is proof that the last national survey of these villages did not find one.
