Getting around

How far the nearest town is

Almost everything these villages do not have is in a town. This page prints the distance from each of the 22 villages to its nearest town, to its taluka headquarters and to the district headquarters.

22villages whose district headquarters is Ahmedabad

Every one of them.

Everything is between 14 and 50 kilometres away

The census records three distances for every village: to the nearest town, to the headquarters of its taluka, and to the district headquarters. For the 22 Dholera villages the nearest town is between 14 and 50 km away, and the district headquarters is Ahmedabad for every single one of them.

Which town is nearest depends on where in the region the village sits: Dhandhuka for 15 villages, Botad for 5 villages, Barwala for 2 villages. That is the practical geography of the place. A bank, a chemist, a mandi and a senior secondary school are all in one of those towns, and every one of them is a journey.

What this table cannot tell you It cannot tell you the travel time, and in this area the two are very different things. The census records straight distance to a named place. It says nothing about the road, the bus frequency or the state of the surface in monsoon.

Where the villages actually go

Distance is only half the answer. The other half is what each of those towns supplies, which the census records separately, one amenity at a time. There is a page for each of the towns the 22 villages name, and each one lists exactly what the census sends the villages there for.
